Newborn Hat, diaper cover, and booties

I have a friend that had a baby and wanted to make something for her. When I found this pattern I had to try it. I think it turned out so cute! I couldn't decide on a blue to add as an accent so I decided to just leave it as gray. It was fun to make and pretty easy to do. It doesn't list the number of stitches that you are supposed to have at the end of the row on every row. So you have to count these to make sure you're on the right track but it's simple enough to verify you're doing it right.

I'll be giving this to my friend today or tomorrow so I'm hoping she likes it. I love making baby gifts! I think they are the funnest ones to make.

Cute Sock Monkey Hats

So I had to share my cute little sock monkey hats I made for my nephews. All I can say is that it's about time I got them done! Whew, sick kids will do that to your schedule. Lol.

These hats are so easy and fun to make.

The pattern is from our very own Cat! She wrote this pattern and used to sell it in her etsy site until she closed it. If you would like to purchase the pattern you can contact her through email at (nutsinanutshell(at)gmail(dot)com). Or if you want to purchase it I am selling them in my etsy shop here. I make them in all sizes, newborn to adult.

I made these with 100% Pure Wool for the majority of the hat. The wool was really easy to use. I had no problems with it. It went very smoothly following her pattern. I loved that there were so many options available in the pattern. I made identical hats so my 2 yr old nephew would steal his younger brother's hat. The pattern has different mouth options and ear flap sizes too.

I really enjoyed making these for my nephews. It was a lot of fun and I have another one on my list to make. My husband wants one to and I've been promising it for forever, it's about time I got it done!

Pumpkin Hat Pattern

This past week a friend of mine asked if I could make a pumpkin hat for her new little niece that is arriving next month. I was thinking about making the one from our blog.

If you recall it's this one.

You can find the pattern posted here. It's really cute and I thought it would be great for her. But the very next day I got an email with several crochet patterns, and there was this little cute newborn pumpkin hat. I just thought it would be so perfect, so I had to try it out. I love this one we have but I do love to try out new patterns, so I had to make it. I'm planning on doing a pattern review on it. I just have to buy more yarn! I used the last of it up giving the pattern a try. So look forward to the review coming, hopefully by early next week.

You can find the pattern here. Here is a picture of their hat:

And here is mine:

I did change up the stem and vine color but kept to the orange. I just love how it turned out. I'm thinking of running over and trying it out on my new little niece. I think she'd just look so adorable in it. Also, if you are interested in it and aren't a crocheter, I am selling them at my Etsy site here.

If you try it out let us know how it went for you and send pictures!

Long Elf Hats!

I have been working on elf hats lately.  I have done... well... 2 so far :) They look absolutely adorable on my kids! Haha.  Thought I would post them and see what you think.  I got the original pattern from Oodles 4 Noodles. Then I had to adjust it for toddler size because I don't have an infant to try it on, so I had to settle for my little toddler :) But you get the idea :) Oddly enough... he will wear it all day long! Here are the pictures.. the colors are a bit washed out because my camera isn't very good.

I like how the bottom part of the hat is thicker, makes for warmer ears!If you aren't a crocheter and would like to purchase one of these hats, please contact me, Amy, at nitymesky(at)yahoo(dot)com for prices and to make a customized order just for you!!-Amy

Candy Corn Hat Giveaway!

Last Halloween, this was my best selling item.  There wasn't a lot of choices on Etsy, then, this year the Candy Corn Hat has exploded and there are many more options for people to buy.  I am okay with it, mainly because my shop has been closed the last few weeks due to having my tonsils out and I was in recovery mode... not exactly in the mood to be taking hat orders.

My original plan was to give away one of these cuties that I already had made up, but then as I thought about it today, I realized I didn't want to limit my readers that way.  So whoever wins this hat, you will get to choose between the sizes newborn through child (That includes all baby and toddler sizes as well).  This is NOT an adult hat.  But I will customize it to the size you need for your little one.

PS -- the great thing about the Candy Corn Hat, is that isn't just a Halloween thing... it's a FALL thing too :)

Back in Action

It's about time that I posted on here again! I basically took the spring and summer off. It has been so busy here I haven't even crocheted much or worked on any other projects. Well in August my cousin, Kassidy, asked me if I wanted to trade a photo session for some hats, she gave me some pictures of hats she liked and I set to work. It was so nice getting back into gear and having a project. With some direction from Cat I was able to learn a new stitch and then took that stitch and created a cute little newborn cable hat. Here are some pictures, unfortunately with the grey it's hard to see the cable stitch but in person it is so cute! The first picture is from Kassidy.

You can see the cable stitch a bit better on this picture.

Kassidy is a great photographer! She took pictures of my little girl two years ago and now my son for his 1 year pictures. They are absolutely the best pictures I have! You can check out her blog at Kassidy Baker Photography

Creating this new hat was such a great experience! I feel a lot more confident in myself with going outside the box and creating things. It was a lot of fun.

Here is another new hat that I did this month. My husband drew a design for me last year but I just didn't get it made. I finally did it this last week and it turned out a lot like the picture. It was a great joint venture and was a lot of fun. : )

Isn't she such a cutie! I love my kiddos. : )

Another new thing for me is that I finally opened my own Etsy shop. It has taken me almost a year to finally do it but I’m so proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone. You can check out my Etsy shop at Heidi's Homemade Hats and Crafts. It’s so much fun!

What new and fun projects have you been working on? Have you gone outside your comfort zone to do something new/different? Let us know what you have been up to. : )

Heidi's Hats

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. It's been crazy busy. I have a home business and I started crocheting as a second, so I've been trying to keep up with everything I want to do. I've had an opportunity come up to do a booth at a craft fair. A friend of mine is going to do it with me. She makes bottle cap bows. I'll have to post a picture of one she made my daughter.

I've also been trying hard to get my Christmas hats done so I can post them on here as well as have an inventory for the booth. So every spare second has been crocheting, crocheting, crocheting. I even crochet in the car while my husband drives. Even if we're only going to be driving ten minutes. I can get something done and ten minutes here and there catch up. Always remember that even if you don't feel like you can get anything done, a little here and there will produce results. So don't get discouraged if you don't feel like you have very much time. You can do it. : )

Anyway, I'm excited to share the hats that I've been working on. I'd be happy to discuss any custom orders and requests you have.

Introducing Heidi's Hats:

Here's my Santa Hat and cute model. : )

Sizes/Prices:

Here's my Snowman Hat. I have another version of the top hat in the works and I'll be posting it after Thanksgiving.

Sizes/Prices:

Here is the hat I made for myself. I can make these in other colors and can customize the flower too. :)

$18.00 USD

This is my nephew's Christmas present, shhh don't tell. : ) I designed it myself for him. If you want a hat with your favorite team on it I'd be happy to design one for you too.

I hope you find something you like. I love to talk shop so leave a comment or shoot me an email. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving. If any of you are traveling, be safe!

Cat's Sock Monkey Hat Pattern

I feel in love with the whole "sock monkey" hat idea last winter when I saw a few of them floating around campus.  But my issue was, that I couldn't seem to find one that I really, truly liked.  Sure there were things about all of them I did like, but always something that bothered me... not to mention the fact that several styles are just a little bit creepy too.

So after looking at lots of pictures of different hats and the original sock monkey dolls, I came up with my own design and have fallen in love with this little guy.  I sell a lot of these hats and have had them requested at several craft fairs or farmer's markets -- I just can't get enough of them done to do something like that.

I have to say, I have become very attached to this design.  I know it may seem silly, but when something is truly YOURS it's hard to share in some ways.  I didn't have any problem making and selling them, but any time someone requested a pattern, I shut down.  I just couldn't give away my little design secrets!

But we grow, thankfully, and we learn.  And I have finally decided to sell my pattern, so that others can enjoy making this little guy as much as I do.

I am selling the pattern in a PDF file that I will email you once the transaction goes through paypal.  The pattern is $8.  Now, before you go on and tell me that there are cheaper Sock Monkeys out there, I want you do two things:  First, if you want a cheaper one, go for it.  Second, this pattern includes 2 different sizes of ear flaps, 6 different mouths, and few other ideas so that you are able to customize your hat just the way you want it!

Note:  As of today, 11/12/11, only the newborn/baby/toddler pattern is available to buy.  I am still working on the children/ Adult sized one.  The reason they are not all bundled together in one pattern is because they are, in fact, totally different hats and so I will sell them as such.

Cat's Sock Monkey Hat Pattern
Pattern is $8.00

I am still selling these hats online here as well already made for those of you who just want to buy one.  No problem!

My hats are made of super soft wool, except for the red and black accents.  This is my little guy's favorite hat of all the ones I have made him.

Important note:  When ordering, make sure you tell me in the "notes" what you are ordering and what size you want.  Paypal does NOT give me that information.

Owl Hats

Ever since I started crocheting I have been fascinated with the various types of Owl hats they have out there.  I think they are super fun and everyone has their own style and technique.  Owls are SO fun to make because you can really play around with them and do so many different fun things!

I recently had a friend ask me to make a couple for her girls.  She sent me a few pictures of examples she liked.  They were fun pastel bright colors, and I was excited to take on the challenge of doing something new!

I popped over to the store and much to my surprise, I actually found some cotton yarn that I liked (I'm not the biggest fan for many reasons).  Anyway, I got to work and had a blast putting together some of the ideas that my friend liked, and some ideas that I had swirling around in my own head.  This is what I came up with:

Cat's Crazy Fun Owl Hat!

This hat is available for purchase right here!  Just make sure you let me know in the "notes" section what colors you want and where: crown, body, iris of the eye color, flower (petal and center), and don't forget to let me know what color you would like the edging and the eye brows.  If you like these, just say "I want it like the Blue one!" Or "I want it like the pink one!"

This owl hat is 100% cotton yarn (or 100% acrylic depending on what you want), with two buttons.

To order this hat or one like it click here!!

Important note:  When ordering, make sure you tell me in the "notes" what you are ordering and what size you want.  Paypal does NOT give me that information.

Note to fellow crocheters:  This pattern will be coming soon!

I also have more natural-style owl hats for both boys and girls available as well.

Newsboy Cap Adventures

A few weeks ago, I was on the lookout for the perfect "newsboy" style cap pattern.  There was no pattern that had all the features that I wanted!  So a found a bunch of different ones with parts that I liked and then put them together and added a few features that were just me.

Here was my first try, and I thought it was a little boxy looking (there are on buttons, but I did add some later):

Here was my second attempt, and I did sell this one:

I make and sell these for $20 a piece. By request, I can add flowers, buttons, etc.  I need to make some more girly ones to post here too...  If you would like to custom order one of these please email me and we can set something up.
